Summertime in the Languedoc
| There is plenty of colour in our gardens during the summer months. One star performer is the chaste tree (Vitex agnus-castus). The seeds are known as monk's pepper and were thought to be particularly useful to those leading a monastic life during the Middle Ages! The Russian sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia Blue Spires) is another plant which flowers well through-out the summer. And, from America, the Mexican oregano (Poliamintha longiflora) and the well-known Gaura lindheimerii are drought resistant plants which are summer flowering and associate well with the Perovskia. From Texas and Mexico, the Leucophyllums are splendid shrubs for dry climates, with silvery foliage and pink or mauve flowers. The photo is of Leucophyllum frutescens |
